During the launch event which was called “Exploring the Metaverse” CSTCB chief inspector Ip Cheuk-yu stressed that the metaverse is no safer than the internet and warned that all types of cyber-crimes can happen within this digital realm .

Chief investigator Ip Cheuk-yu highlighted the potential risks that could be caused by decentralization, some of which include increased vulnerability to asset theft and attacks on metaverse systems .To address these concerns the Hong Kong Police Force will carry on organizing public education initiatives through the CyberDefender Metaverse platform .
The statement that was released by the Hong Kong Police Force unveiled that the city has witnessed a significant rise in technology-related crimes with 663 reported cases in the first quarter of 2023 . The total loss came to be $570 million which represents a 75% increase compared to the same period in the year of 2022 .
