According to Merton when stablecoins are highly liquid and allow for easy conversion of cryptos into cash it has a significant impact on prices . He argues that the liquidity of the stablecoin market controls the overall cryptocurrency prices . The inverse is also true . Merton says "We see that if we look at history even beyond that in previous bull markets we see that there is an increase in Tether as it becomes an increasingly important player and tool in the crypto space since 2015" The Stagnation of Liquidity and Its Impact on Cryptos However the liquidity situation did not improve in 2022 . In fact it remained still and even declined during the period . This lack of liquidity is expected to have a direct impact on cryptocurrency prices . Unless solutions are implemented to address this liquidity issue the prices of cryptocurrencies may continue to be affected . In conclusion the cryptocurrency market faces a bearish trend as predicted by renowned analyst Bluntz and repeated by Nicholas Merton . Both Bitcoin and altcoins are expected to undergo a decline in valuation throughout 2023 .
